FRRO Registration: The Complete Guide

FRRO Registration

Who Needs to Register?

If you have a Visa for more than 180 days (e.g., Employment, Student, or Research Visa), you MUST register with the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) within 14 days of arrival.
Exceptions: Most Tourists on short-term visas do not need to register unless their visa explicitly says "Registration Required".

How to Register?

Good news: It is now almost entirely online (e-FRRO). You upload your documents, pay the fee, and get the certificate by email. Do not visit the office unless summoned.

Late Fees

Do not be late. The penalty for late registration is heavy and is calculated in dollars. It can complicate your exit from the country.
