Tipping Etiquette in India

Quick Tip Guide

Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory in most places.
Restaurants: 10% of the bill (Check if 'Service Charge' is already added; if yes, no tip needed).
Porters/Bellboys: ₹50 - ₹100 per bag.
Taxi/Auto Drivers: Round up to the nearest ₹10 or ₹20.
Guides: ₹300 - ₹500 per day.

The "Service Charge" Confusion

Many restaurants in Delhi/Mumbai add a 10% "Service Charge" to the bill automatically. This is essentially the tip. You are NOT obligated to tip over this. If the service was bad, you can even ask them to remove the Service Charge (legally), though this may cause a fuss.

Street Food

You generally do not tip at street food stalls. The prices are fixed.
