Quick Answer
Internet in India is fast and incredibly cheap. 4G/5G coverage is excellent in
cities.
VPNs: They are legal for users, but due to recent data laws, many VPN providers
(like NordVPN, ExpressVPN) have removed their physical servers from India. You can still
use these services inside India to connect to servers abroad.
Wifi vs Mobile Data
Don't rely just on Hotel Wifi. Buy a local SIM (Airtel or Jio). You get 1.5GB to 3GB of data per day for less than $5 a month. It is often faster and more secure than public Wifi.
Blocked Sites?
India blocks some websites (mostly specific torrent sites or apps like TikTok due to geopolitical tensions). A VPN helps access these if you need them. WhatsApp Calls work fine, but sometimes are clearer over VPN if ISP throttling occurs.
